Scary Crick originally started as a side project of The Rubes during the summer of 2006, with Mike Lubrano playing mandolin, Paul Strother playing guitar, and Kris Wouk playing bodhran. The band played its first show in February 2007.

After playing a handful of shows and gathering up enough songs for a short full length, Scary Crick started working on recording their first CD in late spring/early summer 2007. Shortly after finishing recording, Ryan Bilby joined the band playing bodhran/percussion, with Kris moving over to mostly playing tenor banjo.

The band's first CD, titled Some Low Glow, is due to come out winter 2008.
